Join us as we officially launch the 2012 Marathon di Tuscany. Meet and greet all of the participants and guests and learn about the week’s itinerary, the history of Florence and more! Italian wine, soft drinks and appetizers will be served.
Monday, Sept. 24th - 12K Amazing Race in Florence!
[STAGE 1] There is no better way to explore Florence than on foot and in an “Amazing Race” where you’ll encounter all of the famous sites, from the “Big White Giant” to the Ponte Vecchio.
There’s no city in the world like Florence, and no more beautiful area in the world than Tuscany. What could be better than to spend time with good friends experiencing the region on your own two feet.
Tuesday, Sept. 25th – 10K – Siena Race Through the Vineyards & Wine Tasting
[STAGE 2] We’ll take a bus trip to Siena, and run and walk a hilly road course through the scenic and fragrant vineyards. Enjoy a lunch at a Villa with a special MDT wine tasting too. Then we actively recover as we visit the medieval city of Siena, go up the facade of the Duomo and visit its interior, and the streets within the contrade of the Palio horse race.
And, time permitting, we will also stop in San Gimignano, a small walled medieval hill town mainly famous for its architecture, especially its medieval towers, which may be seen from several miles outside the town. The town also is known for hosting the peculiar Torture museum and for its white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano, grown in the area.
Wednesday, Sept. 26th – Day Off to Explore Florence and Rejuvenate
Is a day off in Firenze, but there’ll be no time for sleeping. There’s just too much to do. You can go to Vivoli for a gelato, go to the Uffizi gallery or the Accademia to get face-to-face with the original statue of David by Michelangelo, stroll on the lungarni and across Ponte Vecchio, walking the Oltrarno to Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli gardens, or whatever plan you have to enjoy the Cradle of the Renaissance on your own.
Thursday, Sept. 27th - 10K – On the Famous “Lucca Walls”
[STAGE 3] We’ll bus to Lucca for a run and walk on its Renaissance-era city walls (flat, shaded and beautiful). After the race we’ll have time to explore Lucca, eat, shop and relax. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Pisa we’ll see the piazza dei Miracoli where you will have the option to climb the stairs of one of the most renown Italian landmarks, the Leaning Tower.
Friday, Sept. 28th – Stage 4 – 10K Trail Run/Walk in Prato
[STAGE 4] The last stage of the Marathon di Tuscany will be a trail run and walk on the Calvana mountains up to the Curzio Malaparte’s grave on the top of the Spazzavento. A challenge, but a view you will never forget! Hike up, run or walk down and enjoy a Tuscany view to the finish.
Every Marathon di Tuscany finish deserves a traditional Italian party! We’ll spend the evening with our friends and gracious hosts of the Croce d’Oro Running Club for a home cooked meal, wine and camaraderie!
Saturday, Sept. 29th - Awards Celebration
